Sometimes looking to celebrities gets us inspired! I love the way trends are translated by celebrities because they become very wearable and real life. You know what I mean - when we look through a fashion magazine sometimes our first thought is "Who on earth would ever wear that?!" Celebs take the best of the editorial look and make it their own.
That's what fashion is all about - have fun trying something new but make it your own!
Here's a great look that shows a center part (yes a center part is coming back!) but with the softness and volume around at the bottom it doesn't look harsh at all. A perfect look for someone who wants to maintain their long hair but keeping in line with a more natural trend. Accented by a beautiful rich haircolor and your ready to roll through this fall with a very low maintenance look! Make sure you keep your hair in tip-top shape with regular conditioning treatments - ask your stylist!

Wow - time just goes fast. Summer is on its way out and school is back in session. Reluctantly we will say goodbye to the days upon days of sunshine we have enjoyed this season.
But not to worry...the fun is just getting started! The natural question on everyone's mind right now is "What's in for Fall?"
I think that when we think of "fashion" our minds try to conjur up images that we have stored from magazines and different types of media. Someone please just tell me what I need to get - what items do I absolutely have to buy to update my closet and what color and style should my hair be?? Sound familiar? :)
We will be exploring all these questions and more so stay tuned next week and meanwhile check out this great page on Redken's website from Fall/Winter 2010 Fashion Week.

Ever wake up and wonder what happened to the great hair you had yesterday? Me too!
This time of year can be more challenging because of the high humidity. Curly hair gets bigger and fine hair becomes limp.
We would never think of wearing a heavy wool sweater in the middle of summer. Or a breezy summer dress in the middle of winter. Our hair's needs change with each season too! Talk to your stylist about a home maintenance program that will get you through the dog days of summer with more great hair days!
One of my newest favorite products is from the Pureology Super Smooth line. The relaxing serum feels light in the hair but packs a big punch in keeping the frizzies away. It's beautiful for blow drying hair smooth but also great as a finishing serum for curls. The best feature is that when you step out into the humidity, your hair will maintain the shape you have created without getting frizzy! Pretty cool, huh?!
If your hair isn't performing for you, it may just be that you need a little extra help from a different product. Ask your stylist what is right for you!

Wow! What a great day of education we had this past Monday!
Not just a cutting class but also a history lesson. What's the lesson? Just this....nothing changes when you are dealing with classic shapes and the foundation of what we create each day in the salon. The fundamental principles of design will always remain the same. What makes a shape unique is the person wearing it and the artistic edge of the one designing it.
We took a walk through the history of Vidal Sassoon and the beautiful classic shapes that are now icons in our industry. The bob, the wedge, the firefly and on and on. All shapes we borrow from in 2010!
There is no other feeling like when you create an absolutely perfect haircut! It was fun to see our younger team members be introduced for the first time to these iconic shapes and those of us who are "more mature" had fun taking a walk down memory lane!
Whether in their pure form or as inspiration, Vidal Sassoon pioneered the way for the designs we create today. And all I can say is....Thanks!!

There is nothing like the prospect of learning something new that really gets my blood going and my imagination working!
Our quarterly education is coming up and I can't wait! Redken Artist Ellen Lawlor will be spending the day with us working on "classic cutting". You know....the classic shapes that have defined fashion history and are still influencing fashion today. Very precise, geometric shapes that require each section of the cut to be absolutely perfect.
Can't wait!!

Hi All!
I just wanted to give a shout out to our awesome guest service team. We just spent the entire day together learning how to increase our level of customer service and I have to say we are all so excited to get back into the salon and implement some of the great ideas we got from this class today.
Our guest service team is one of the most caring that I have ever come across in this industry. I am truly blessed personally to know each one. As for laus Deo as a whole we can't thank them enough for going above and beyond each day to care for each and every guest that comes into the salon with a genuine and sincere desire to serve and make your experience memorable!
Thanks ladies!

The following is a special note of personal thanks from the Petrie Family and very special thanks from the team at laus Deo to all of you who came out in support of the Cut-a-thon last week!
Hello Dear Friends & Family!! The Petries would like to send out a BIG thank you to all that participated in the Cut-A-Thon for our family. We are so grateful for all the hard work and effort that went into putting this event together. Many hours of coordinating, promoting, volunteered hours of cutting hair and the beautiful donations given to the raffle. We are also very grateful for the many people that were able to attend and those that weren't but were still generous in giving as well. It was so wonderful to be out and about at both places and see the faces of such amazing friends. We felt so much love and support!! The words "thank you" seem to fall so short of the true overwhelming emotion that we feel towards all of you. We feel so blessed and pray that all of you will in turn be blessed for your kindness. We could never have walked this journey without the prayers and encouragement that all of you poured out so richly into our family and this was truly just above and beyond anything that we could have ever imagined. The money raised that evening from both salons was the exact amount that our insurance company is not going to cover. The Lord works out every detail of our lives......even in this too!! We humbly thank you all for helping us. THANKS!! Sincerely,The Petrie Family

We've been discussing modern haircolor trends for 2010. One of the trends we are seeing is multi-tonal highlights which we have talked about over the last few days.
Another very strong trend is haircolor that is lighter on the ends. This is a great low maintenance look since the color already looks "grown-in". There are no touch-ups necessary at the root area.
For a bold look, triangle patterns can be blocked throughout the design and lightened on the ends. It's important to blur or feather the color up so that it gently transitions from stronger on the ends to softer toward the mid-shaft and disappears completely toward the scalp.
For a softer version, simply try a balyage technique which is painting haircolor directly onto the ends of the hairstrand in small sections.
Ask your stylist - Happy coloring!
