Tomorrow I will be visiting the Paul Mitchell Academy in Twinsburg as a guest artist. My friend is a teacher at the school and has invited me to come and do a demonstration for the students. I have to say she is persistent! I admit that I'm a bit nervous since it's been about 4 years since I have taught before a group of stylists other than my own team. Hopefully it's just like riding a bike!
I plan to show a beautiful, long shape. One of the most common requests we get in the salon is to create a different look, while still maintaining the length of the hair. What I plan on sharing with the students is a fun shape that gives the guest what she is always looking for....length at the perimeter, volume in the crown and interest around the face!
One thing is certain. Education is a vital element to success in our industry. If you are bored, go learn something new! If you are in a rut, go learn something new! If you want to be inspired...you guessed it - go learn something new!
I think that applies not only in our industry but in life as well.
So as I am teaching tomorrow I will look forward to a great learning experience myself!

The adrenalin is pumping! Melissa, Louie and I met with our photographer and wardrobe stylist yesterday. After throwing around different ideas and looking over many images we have our vision! The shoot will be inspired by the glamorous looks and shapes of the 40's but with a very modern feel in the texture of the hair and a vintage urban quality with the wardrobe.
There are many details to finish including choosing the models (if anyone is interested in modeling to build their portfolio please feel free to contact us.)
Meanwhile we are staying inspired and keeping warm doing what we love - hair!

It's a common complaint this time of year. My hair is full of static, has no volume and won't perform the way it used to.
Check out this HOT TIP to maintain your look through the dry winter months. A misconception is that conditioner ways the hair down and therefore many people eliminate this important step.
A helpful tool is a leave in conditioner that is lightweight enough that it won't weigh the hair down but will give your hair the moisture it needs.
A couple of my favorites are Redken's Clear Moisture Polish Prep and Color Extend Total Recharge. Both are lightweight sprays that can be left in the hair without adding weight. The benefit is that your hair will have the extra moisture needed right now and your styling products can be applied directly on top of these treatments. Think of it as spackling before you paint - the porous areas of the hair shaft are filled in and you have a smooth surface to apply your styling product to.
Give it a try and see how great your hair performs even in the middle of the gray days of winter!

Planning a photo shoot in the salon is so exciting! From the conception of ideas to the execution of our vision. We are in the planning stages right now with our photographer and wardrobe stylist. Everything from the clothing, lighting and makeup and of course the hair needs to be clearly communicated. It's a great way for us to come together as a team creatively and to challenge ourselves and each other to push it just a little bit more to the edge! We will have a clear direction next week and I'll look forward to sharing it with you.
You can check out our previous photo shoot portfolio by going to our news/events page....
