Pureology

I am so excited for our upcoming education class. We will be polishing up on Purelogy.  A wonderful haircare line that is known for amazing benefits.

They use 0nly vegan ingredeints, which are free of harsh colour-stripping sulfates and salts.  Let's face it, there is nothing more dissapointing then walking out of the salon with beautiful shiny hair and then before you know it your hair color has started to fade because of a harsh shampoo and conditoner we used at home.  Being a zero sulfate shampoo line there is no worries about your haircolor fading as fast as Ohio's summers.

With the importance of taking care of our beautiful planet, Pureology is proud to use post-consumer recycled and recyclable packaging.

For all you animal lovers out there you will be warm and fuzzy knowing that Pureology is against animal cruelty.

Stay tuned to hear  more about the benefits of Pureology and when we will be launching it in the salon.

Trend 2010

We've been discussing modern haircolor trends for 2010.  One of the trends we are seeing is multi-tonal highlights which we have talked about over the last few days.

Another very strong trend is haircolor that is lighter on the ends.  This is a great low maintenance look since the color already looks "grown-in".  There are no touch-ups necessary at the root area.
For a bold look, triangle patterns can be blocked throughout the design and lightened on the ends.  It's important to blur or feather the color up so that it gently transitions from stronger on the ends to softer toward the mid-shaft and disappears completely toward the scalp.
For a softer version, simply try a balyage technique which is painting haircolor directly onto the ends of the hairstrand in small sections.

Ask your stylist - Happy coloring!

Let's face it.  Blondes are still the most asked for color, especially during the warmer months.

So if you are blonde and want to update your haircolor, here are some great options.  Talk to your stylist about what we learned here yesterday....multi-tonal highlights.  The effect can be dramatic or subtle depending on the color families chosen.

For example, a subtle effect might be a golden vanilla blonde background with warm papaya and rich honey shades woven into the color.

A more bold statement would be that same golden vanilla blonde background with rich macadamia nut and deeper saffron shades woven more boldly into the design.  However, the effect should never be stripey even if the outcome you are looking for is bold.  Remember, it's the contrast between the shades that will make the difference.  If you like a "chunkier" effect in your haircolor...stay tuned!  We will be talking about techniques that can be used to keep it modern looking and give you the drama you crave!

Our discussion of trends continues!

Right now multi-tonal highlights are a beautiful trend that anyone can wear.  Whether you love blonde, brunette or red - the easiest way to modernize your haircolor is by adding more of the same tones to your hair to make it feel more dimensional.  Haircolor is an illusion and creates the perception of more movement, depth, shadows, lights and shine.  Cool, huh?!

It's not just about adding the same multi-tonal highlights that we have always done.  The color palette has been so expanded that  anything goes!  It might be the lightest pastel to the richest shade of chocolate, deep russet reds, brilliant coppers or the shiniest and deepest shade of black.  One underlying thread is common though....haircolor is not one dimensional.  Increase the saturation of color by adding darker and lighter values of the the same tone.

Tomorrow we'll get more specific for each color palette.

One of the most common questions we are asked in the salon is "What's the latest trend?"  A simple question, right?  But, often times there are many different influences that cycle through fashion very quickly.  Sometimes in a matter of months!  The exciting outcome is that there is always something new to draw fresh inspiration from.

Right now there is a major trend with the use of color....everywhere!  Not just in clothing and haircolor.  Check out the home goods department the next time you are shopping.  Highly saturated bold color is a definite trend in fashion right now.   Opposing colors are being used together like we haven't seen in decades.

Now, does that mean we should all color our hair hot pink with green and blue jewel tones???  No....but think about how haircolor can be more "saturated" with color. Identifying a trend is one thing...making it work for you is what developing your own fashion statement is all about!

Tomorrow we'll continue to explore trends and exactly how to modernize your haircolor for 2010!

Photo Shoot

If anyone had peeked into the salon this past Monday you would have gotten a cool view of what goes on at a photo shoot!  The energy was high, the models were great and the entire team including our photographer, wardrobe artist and makeup artists did an AMAZING job!

A very special thanks also to DO Summers Dry Cleaning who allowed us to use their space for the shoot.  They went above and beyond!

Our team was pumped with creativity and as I looked around the salon at everyone so focused and working hard to create their vision, I was reminded again of what a great career we all have!  Working with such a dedicated team of people, doing what we love to do and capturing amazing moments in photos...what more could we ask for??!

Stay tuned to our website and facebook to check out the pics once they are posted!

Straight Talk

I'm sure I am not alone in feeling like some days are just harder to get through than others!

One of those days when time stands still and you feel like it will never end.  How do you get through and come out on the other end with blessings to share, a refreshed spirit and feeling ready to take on a new day?

The amazing thing about what we do in the salon is that each day is at the same time completely different and yet entirely the same!  Every day we take care of guests and provide service and skill to the best of our ability.  Because we see different people each day it is always new and different!  Maybe many of you don't realize how you have blessed our day so I wanted to share and give a special thank you to all of our guests.

When we feel tired and don't have quite enough energy to get through...it's you, our guest that helps to keep us going!  Knowing that we are lifting your spirits by giving you great looking hair and a positive experience is what drives us.

I guess what I am saying is this...what helps is remembering that it is not really about me at all!  It's about making someone else's day great and you know...when it's over,  I can look back with a smile and say "Hey - it was an awesome day today!"

More about round brushes!

We understand about the size - now let's talk about the shape of your brush!  Most of you are probably familiar with a round brush that is well....round!

Another great tool is an "oval" shaped brush.  The oval shape is flatter on the sides and gives great control to hair that is thick or curly when you want to smooth or straighten hair and still maintain volume.  When you have extreme curl that starts right from the root and want to get it straight try this hot tip:

Use the brush on top of the section instead of placing it under the section like we would normally do.  This gives you great control over the root and you can really maintain a good deal of tension to get those curls going where you want them to go!  Focus on drying the root area first and then move on to the mid-shaft.  Once you are working with the ends you can switch the position of your brush and place it under your section to give final shine, control and movement to the ends.

Next time your hair is misbehaving reach for your oval brush and see how easy it is to get under control!

Welcome back to our round brush discussion!

Here's a great way to see if your round brush is the right size for you!

Check out how many rotations your hair gets around the brush.

If you want volume choose a brush that rotates 1 - 2 times around the hair.

If you want volume with a bit of movement on the ends you'll want the brush to rotate 3-5 times around the hair.
